John Zima, 89, of Tilden Twp., passed away in his residence on Friday, September 14, 2018. He was the husband of Anna (Ochodnicka) Zima. They were married on May 5, 1950 and celebrated sixty-eight years of marriage. Born in Myjava, Slovakia, he was the son of the late John and Kristina (Mockovciakova) Zima. John was a veteran of the Army in Slovakia. In 1969, John, Anna and their family moved to the United States. He worked as a security guard at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. John was also a bonded locksmith and once operated a hardware store. He enjoyed beekeeping and gardening. John was a hard worker and took pride in taking care of his family. He was a member of St. Paul's (Smoke) Lutheran Church, Hamburg. Surviving in addition to his wife are his children: Anna (Zima) Maronna, Tilden Twp.; Danny Zima, and his wife Andrea, Lenhartsville; and John Zima, Jr., and his wife Daniela, Morganville, New Jersey; and three grandchildren: Daniela, Jason and Lance. John was predeceased by a sister: Anna Durcova. Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in St. Paul's (Smoke) Cemetery, Windsor Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Tuesday 10:00 to 11:00 am.
