John H. Williamson, 96, of Hamburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in The Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Verna S. (Stewart) Williamson, who died May 7, 2007. Born in Hamburg, he was the son of the late Levi E. and Katie L. (Whitmoyer) Williamson. He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard. John first worked at Christman Ice Cream plant in 1935 making popsicles. He then worked for Norman Becker for four years; and then worked as a plumber for John L. Fry. During World War II, John got a defense job working at Pennsylvania Steel for five years. Following that time, he went back to work for John Fry and last worked for Randall Rentschler in Hamburg, retiring in 1982. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Hamburg. John was also a member of Loyal Order of Moose, Hamburg; and Union Fire Company No. 1 and beneficial association, Hamburg. He enjoyed making ships and planes out of tin cans. John is survived by two daughters: Patricia A. (Williamson), widow of Kenneth J. Zimmerman, Hamburg; and Leona F. (Williamson), wife of Ronald S. Slepecki, Exeter Twp. He is also survived by six grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; fifteen step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by a son: Kenneth J. Williamson, died September 21, 1985; five brothers: Clarence, Franklin, Harold, George and Norman; and four sisters: Mary, Esther, Beatrice and Mabel. Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in Berks County Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held on Tuesday 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Wednesday 10:00 to 11:00 am.
