Obituary

John S. Tryon, 88, formerly of Shartlesville, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in Hunterdon Care Center, Flemington, New Jersey. He was the husband of Lucille A. (Hix) Tryon, who died August 15, 2009. Born in Rehrersburg, he was the son of the late Agnew S. and Suzanne (Sherman) Tryon. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. John owned and operated Tryon's General Store for over thirty years. After selling the store, he worked as a custodial engineer at the Hamburg Area High School until his retirement. John was a member of St. Michael's Church, Tilden Twp. He was also a life member of the Shartlesville Fish and Game Association, the Upper Bern Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign War. John was also a member and past president and treasurer of the Shartlesville Lions Club; and a member of the Shartlesville Fire Company and the Pennsylvania German Society. John is survived by two sons: Jeffrey J. Tryon, husband of Marie L. (Nocitra) Tryon, Flemington; and Rodney S. Tryon, husband of Catherine S. (Miller) Tryon, Cutchogue, New York; and two grandchildren: Annalee T. and Alexander J. Tryon. He was predeceased by one brother: Jacob Tryon; and two sisters: Phyllis Zugda and Jean Hollenbach. Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am from St. Michael's Church, 529 St. Michael's Road, Hamburg. Burial will follow in Altalaha Cemetery, Rehrersburg. A visitation with the family will be held at the church Monday 9:30 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Meals On Wheels of Hunterdon County, 5 Walter E.
