John P. Lutz, 84, of Centre Twp., passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 25, 2025. He was the husband of Donna M. (Mountz) Lutz. They were married on September 5, 1992 and celebrated thirty-two years of marriage.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Donald E. and Emma (Riegel) Lutz. John was a graduate of Schuylkill Valley High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1958-1964. John worked as a tool maker at Textile Machine Works. He attended the Centerport Sunday School, where he helped to take care of the grounds; and previously attended Salem (Belleman's) Church. John was a member of Washington Camp #446 P.O.S. of A., where he was camp president, county president, state president and trustee. He was also a member of the Leesport Historical Society, Leesport Lock House and Ontelaunee Grange #1617. John was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed collecting George Washington memorabilia, playing Santa Claus, and his pig roast business.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children: Beth Ann (Lutz) Rhoades, wife of Steven, Oley; Rebecca L. Lutz, wife of Andrea, Reading; and John P. Lutz, Jr., Germantown; two step-daughters: Terri L. (Kercher) Doll, wife of Michael, Exeter Twp.; and Tracy J. (Kercher) Simmon, Ocala, Florida; two grandchildren: Jason Rhoades (Samantha) and Leeann Peterson (Mikael); four step-grandchildren: Matthew Doll (Francesca), Justine Feick, Brittany Matteson and Skye Matteson; and three great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Hailey and Peyton. John is also survived by a brother: Ralph S. Lutz, Centre Twp.; and a sister: Emily J. (Lutz) Hogan, Arkansas. He was predeceased by a son: Ira E. Lutz; and a sister: Nancy (Lutz) Hughes.
Services for John will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 12:30 pm at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Friday 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Washington Camp #446 P.O.S. of A. will present their service during the funeral.
