IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John K.
Bachman
December 1, 1940 – April 1, 2025
John Kress Bachman, 84, of Greenwich Twp., PA, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest. He was the husband of the late Marcia H. (Hubbell) Bachman, died September 14, 1999.
Born in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late Luther R. Bachman and Catherine A. (Kress) Bradley. He graduated from William Allen High School in 1959; and attended 2 years at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, later transferring to Babson College in Wellesley, MA. John was a US Army veteran, who served as a photographer at the Defense Language Institute, at Presidio of Monterey, CA. Following his time in the Army, he continued photography as a profession. After returning back east to Allentown, he began his own professional photography business which eventually blossomed into Mountain Wood Studio, in Lenhartsville. After meeting Marcia at North Lookout on Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in 1979 they were married on June 20, 1981 and relocated to Berks County, PA shortly thereafter. For many years, John was inspired by the work of Ansel Adams, a renowned black and white landscape photographer whom he had the privilege of studying under, at a workshop in Yosemite National Park in 1969. He was a volunteer hawk counter at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary for many years and contributed his photographs to the 1984 50th Anniversary Celebration as well as the Hawk Mountain News publication. John's photos have also been featured in exhibits at the Allentown Art Museum. He enjoyed everything outdoors and nature related, photography, birdwatching, hiking, trout fishing, home cooking, cycling in his former years, and a lifelong inclination for reading the Wall Street Journal daily. He was also a member of the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, the Sierra Club and belonged to St. Johns Lutheran Church in Hamburg for many years. He greatly enjoyed his time spent in Yosemite National Park, as well as on North Lookout at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, and all the times with his beloved four legged friends over the years.
He is survived by a son: Ansel L. Bachman, husband of Brittany J. (Pinter) Bachman, Lenhartsville; a sister: Janet B. (Bachman) Canning, Walnut Creek, CA; and his niece: Cathy Sears, wife of Matthew, and her children: Jocelyn and James, and his niece: Susan Bachman.
