John R. Hix, 91, of Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., died Thursday, April 12, 2012 in the Reading Hospital. His wife, Arlene A. (Beidler) Hix, died April 4, 2007.
Born in Hamburg, he was the son of the late John W. and Clara (Feick) Hix. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; and a Purple Heart recipient. John worked for twenty-two years as a baker's helper for Maier's Bakery, until his retirment. He then worked part-time as a delivery driver for West Side Radiator in Stevens. John was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Muhlenberg Twp. He was a member of the Upper Bern Veterans Association. John enjoyed attending his 80th Division Army reunions.
Surviving are two sons: Ralph M., husband of Deborah L. Hix, Lebanon; and David J., husband of Faith A. Hix, Birdsboro; one daughter: Patricia A. (Hix), wife of D.L. Trott, Maysville, North Carolina; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. John is also survived by two brothers: Donald Hix, Middletown; and Rae Hix, Upper Bern Twp.; and one sister: Pauline (Hix) Luckenbill, Centerport. He was predeceased by four brothers: Leroy, George, Richard, and Harold Hix; and one sister: Lucille (Hix) Tryon.
Services will be on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 11:00 am from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3344 Reading Crest Avenue, Reading, PA 19605. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Twp. A viewing will be held in the church Wednesday, April 25, 9:30 to 11:00 am.
