John M. Gottwald, 62, of Reading, PA, passed away after a brief illness on December 16, 2024 at Hershey Medical Center surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of Barbara June Gottwald; and the late Donald L. Gottwald. John is survived by his devoted wife of 11 years, Valerie (Flint) Gottwald; mother, Barbara June Gottwald; brother, Jeffrey Gottwald (Darlene); sister, Jennifer Gottwald; children Lee Hanna, Bonnie Sellers (Brad), and Kenny Hanna (Kim); five grandchildren, two uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

John was a 1980 graduate of Greater Johnstown Area Vocational-Technical High School, where he earned a diploma in Data Processing. He graduated from Berks Technical Institute with a degree in IT/Computer Science.

As a Unified Communications Manager at World Travel Inc., John's technological expertise and willingness to assist others left a lasting impact. Earlier in his career, he managed Radio Shacks in Johnstown and Somerset, PA, and proudly retired from the Army National Guard in Johnstown.

John and Valerie were married in Hawaii, cementing their shared love for adventure and travel.

John was enthusiastic about indulging in his favorite Johnstown subs and gobs. He looked forward to attending the annual Ethnic Fest in Johnstown. John also loved amusement parks, especially roller coasters.

His generosity and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him. John would often say he was "living the dream!"

A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held on January 24, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport, PA.
