John L. Eyer, Jr., 69, of Upper Bern Twp., died Friday, January 13, 2012 at 7:40 pm in the residence of his nephew, Scott A. Hartman, and his wife Denise, with whom he resided. His wife, Sandra A. (Arndt) Eyer, died March 5, 2000.
Born in Lenhartsville, he was the son of the late John L., Sr., and Hannah (Smith) Eyer. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War. John was a career Air Force veteran, obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. John was employed by the Air National Guard, working from Harrisburg International Airport, until retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg. John was a past master of Vaux Masonic Lodge #406 F. & A.M., Hamburg. He was also a member of the Shartlesville Fire Company.
John was a good singer and had his own Karaoke business. He also had an incredible green thumb. He was a very kind and generous person. John had a special and loving relationship with his great-nephew Michael.
John is survived by one brother: Nelson D., husband of Ruthann (Gundrum) Eyer, Perry Twp.; two sisters: Barbara M. (Eyer), wife of Evald Wicks, Upper Tulpehocken Twp.; and Peggy A. (Eyer), wife of Warren John Hartman, Upper Bern Twp.; one step-brother: Carl Krick, husband of Rose (Brewster) Krick, Shoemakersville; and one step-sister: Betty Lou (Krick), widow of Paul Angstadt, Hamburg. He is also survived by seven nephews and nieces and three step-nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his step-mother: Jennie (Krick) Eyer; and step-brother: Martin Krick, husband of Betty "Chutt" (Fields) Krick.
Services will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg (off street parking in rear), with Rev. Willard J. Uhler, Jr. officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Wednesday 9:30 to 11:00 am with Vaux Masonic Lodge service at 10:45 am.
