Jeannette I. Schaner, 76, of Hamburg, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. She was the wife of Vernon C.C. Schaner, Sr. Born in Longswamp Twp., she was the daughter of the late John and Ella (Smith) Long. Jeannette worked as a waitress for many years at the Perry Diner, Perry Twp., and also worked at the Burkey Knitting Mill, Hamburg. She was a member of Christ Delong United Church of Christ, Bowers. She was a former member of Behler-Hein American Legion, Hamburg. Surviving in addition to her husband are five sons: Robert C.L., Sr., husband of Shelva (Gruber) Schaner, Shoemakersville; Norman G., husband of Cynthia (Burkert) Schaner, Hamburg; Vernon C.C. Schaner, Jr., Hamburg; Gary R., husband of Tammy (Shollenberger) Schaner, Hamburg; and Paul G.E., husband of Lisa (Bates) Schaner, Reading.; ten grandchildren: Theresa Morgan, Robert Schaner, Jr., Justin Schaner, Travis Schaner, Megan Schaner, Jared Schaner, Tonya Klee, Mark Schaner, Kristen Schaner, and Michael Schaner; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Jeannette is also survived by a brother: Robert, husband of Sandy (Rohrbach) Long, Alburtis. She was predeceased by: a son John C. Schaner; two brothers: Warren and Donald Long; and a sister: Annie (Long) DeRita. Services will be held Friday July 26 at 11:00 A.M. from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in Union Cemetery of Bowers. A viewing will be held Friday in the funeral home 9:30 to 11:00 A.M.
