October 2, 1947 – July 31, 2023
James H. Smith, 75, of Tilden Twp., passed away Monday, July 31, 2023 in Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Cynthia L. (Seaman) Smith, died October 29, 2016.
Born in Leesport, he was the son of the late Daniel W. and Mary E. (Readinger) Smith. He graduated from Schuylkill Valley High School. Jim was a US Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam war. He worked as a cabinet maker at Quaker Maid Cabinets until retirement. Years ago, he enjoyed golfing, and he was a collector of antiques and beer steins. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He is survived by three step-sons: Donald L. Rentschler, husband of Stacia, Centre Twp., Timothy T. Rentschler, husband of Lori, Upper Bern Twp., and Kerry L. Rentschler, Tilden Twp.; step-grandchildren: Kelsey (Rentschler) Troxel, Morgan (Rentschler) Scheffler, Colton Rentschler, and Sebastian Rentschler; a brother: Marshall L. "Marty" Smith, husband of Gloria Z. (Turner), Bern Twp.; and two brother-in-laws: Craig L. Seaman, husband of Elaine, Lake Wynonah, and Cory M. Seaman, husband of Kathy, Bernville. He was predeceased by brothers: Daniel W. Smith, Jr., William F. Smith, Charles H. Smith, and Robert A. Smith; two sisters: Dorothy E. (Smith) Miller, and Mary E. (Smith) Jones; and a sister in law: Cheryl D. (Seaman) Tobias.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 7:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street Leesport.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 10:00 am.
***Those wishing to attend the burial, please arrive by 9:45 am at the cemetery, in the rear of the Administration Building.
