James R. Bertolet, 85, formerly of Hamburg, a resident at Berks Heim, passed away Friday, February 19, 2021 in Berks Heim. He was the husband of Martha E. (Stoudt) Bertolet. They were married October 10, 1998 and celebrated 22 years of marriage.
Born in West Lawn, he was the son of the late John R. and Kathryn R. Bertolet. He graduated from Central Catholic High School. James was a member of First United Church of Christ, Hamburg. Jim held various jobs through his life, working as a building supply salesman, a security guard, and cabinet maker. He spent his most recent working years in the produce department of Redner's Warehouse Markets, before retiring. He was a former member of the Leesport Cemetery Board of Directors, a member of the Hamburg Senior Citizens, loved helping the Rotary Club of Hamburg with their various events, especially cooking breakfast, and believed in and contributed to many charitable organizations. He enjoyed gardening, his canine companion "Sue Sue," puzzles, and cookies. He was always very handy around the house when things needed to be repaired. Jim also enjoyed traveling.
Surviving in addition to his wife are Martha's daughters: Kathleen W. (Wolfe) Snyder, wife of Howard, Bern Twp., Christine E. (Wolfe) Fritzen, wife of Robert, Reading, Jane W. (Wolfe) Sigoda, wife of Steve, Mohrsville, and Lanita A. (Wolfe) Lum, wife of Paul, Hellertown; nine grandchildren: Kate Cook, Robert Fritzen, Jr., Abby Maulick, Lauren Simensen, Danielle Fritzen, Jacob Newhard, Taylor Sigoda, Cory Newhard, and Brett Sigoda; and six great-grandchildren: Kinley J. Maulick, Ryder W. Maulick, Harrison E. Cook, Jane E. Cook, Ollie P. Simensen, and Lila G. Newhard. He was predeceased by a brother: John Bertolet.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street Leesport, PA 19533. Burial will follow in Laureldale Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the funeral home. The funeral services will be live-streamed, a link can be found on James' page on the funeral home website.
