Jackie (Jack) Benjamin Kochan, 85, of Reading, passed away on February 10, 2025.
He was born on April 24, 1939, in Laureldale, and was a son of the late Benjamin and Edna (Reimert) Kochan, of Mohrsville.
Jack was predeceased by his brother, Charles J. Kochan, Sr., and his sister, Anna A. Kochan, as well as his wife of sixty-four years, June M. Kochan. Jack is survived by his sons, Jeffrey, Centennial, CO; and Jonathan, husband of Minette, San Francisco, CA; one granddaughter, Marisol, Centennial, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Anchorage, AK, working as a helicopter repairman. He loved the outdoors, and took advantage of the beauty of Alaska to snow ski, water ski, hike, fish, and pan for gold. While in Alaska, he also got his pilot's license and flew twin engine planes.
He enjoyed Scouting, and served as a Cub Scout leader in Dauberville. His creative passion was woodcarving, and he wrote and illustrated five how-to books about carving. He was active in Lancaster County Woodcarvers Club, and he taught a carving class for home-school kids.
He worked for many years in several capacities for Caloric Corporation, Topton, retiring there as a facilities engineer.
Jack is remembered by many for his dry wit, his kindness, and his friendly nature.
