Howard E. Snyder, "Hoff", 91, of Tilden Twp., passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015 in the Lutheran Home at Topton. He was the husband of Ruth M. (Lonergan) Snyder, who died July 19, 1997.
Born in Eckville, Albany Twp., he was the son of the late Elmer and Minnie (Berk) Snyder. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart recipient. Howard worked as a mechanic for Degler Chevrolet, Hamburg, for forty-two years. He was a life member of Pike Township Sportsman's Club and beneficial association; Goodwill Fire Company and beneficial association; Hamburg Game Association; Behler-Hein American Legion Post #637, Hamburg; Keystone Social Club; Union Fire Co. No. 1 Hamburg and beneficial association; and the Loyal Order of Moose, Hamburg. Howard was also a member of the Shartlesville Fish and Game Association. He loved wood working, bowling and gardening.
Howard is survived by one daughter: Faye D. (Snyder), wife of Calvin G. Rausch, Perry Twp.; three granddaughters: Angela, wife of Rodney Bashore; Melanie, wife of Scott Brown; and Tana, wife of Pat Koller; six great-grandchildren: Shelby, Tyler, Christopher, Elaina, Cora and Samantha; an adopted great-granddaughter: Leah; and one brother: Stanley Snyder, and his wife Nancy, Perry Twp. He was predeceased by three brothers: Lester, Kenneth, and Norman Snyder; and three sisters: Mildred Reber, Marie Donatelli, and Lennia Becker.
Howard's family would like to thank the staff of the Laurel Center, Lutheran Home and Topton, and Life Choice Hospice for the compassionate care given to him.
Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial with military honors will follow in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Tuesday 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Loyal Order of Moose service will be on Tuesday at 8:00 pm.
