Helen M. Kunsman, 78, of Muhlenberg Twp., died Friday, September 27, 2013 in Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital, Bethlehem. She was the wife of Richard A. "Dick" Kunsman. They were married on February 7, 1954 and celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Sallie (Bachert) Schlegel. Helen was the valedictorian of the 1953 graduating class of Hamburg High School. She sold real estate for George Conrad and Associates in Wyomissing; and last worked as a teacher for various day cares in the area, retiring in 1995. Helen was a member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Tuckerton, where she was very active with the craft groups. She was a member of the Flying Dutchman Ski Club. Helen and her husband Dick founded the Pagoda City Beamers. She enjoyed camping, traveling, counted cross stitch and other needle craftwork; and gardening. Helen especially enjoyed spending time with her family and her granddaughter Meghan.
Surviving in addition to her husband is one daughter: Michele L. (Kunsman), wife of Michael L. Cramer, Spring Twp.; granddaughter: Meghan Cramer; and mother-in-law: Mattie L. (James) Bender, a resident at the Laurel Center, Tilden Twp.
Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am from Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, 170 Tuckerton Road, Reading, PA 19605. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A viewing will be held on Tuesday 7:00 to 9:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport; and at the church on Wednesday 10:00 to 11:00 am.
