Hazel K. Long, 92, formerly of Yoder Heights, Tilden Twp., died Friday, September 9, 2011 in Berks Heim, Bern Twp., where she resided for two years. She previously resided at Luther Ridge at Seiders Hills, Pottsville. Hazel's husband, L. Edwin Long, died March 2, 1991.
Born in Hamburg, she was the daughter of the late Clayton D. and Kathryn E. (Glasmire) Yoder. Hazel was a 1936 graduate of Hamburg High School. She first worked as a folder at Diener's Knitting Mill. She then owned and operated Long's Grocery Store, Yoder Heights, from 1955-1966. During the early 1950's, she worked as a cashier in the cafeteria of the Tilden Elementary School; and then the Hamburg Area High School during the early 1960's. Hazel last worked as a presser at March Sportswear, until her retirement. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg; where she was a member of the Lutheran Church Women, Altar Guild, and treasurer of St. John's Lutheran Church Sunday School. Hazel was also the treasurer of the Tilden Elementary School cafeteria; former member and officer of Business and Professional Woman's Club of Hamburg; and a member of Blue Mt. Chapter #443 Order of Eastern Star, Hamburg.
Hazel is survived by two sons: Barry E. Long, Reading; and Craig A., husband of Doris P. (Kauffman) Long, Windsor Twp.; two granddaughters: Janelle C. (Long), wife of Adam Fink, Hamburg; and Gretchen E. (Long), wife of Brooke Meyers, Lenhartsville; two great-grandchildren: Ian and Greta Fink; and two step-great-grandchildren: Daniel and Jenna Meyers. Hazel was predeceased by a son: Philip K. Long, died March 10, 1950; three brothers: Carl, Paul; and Earl Yoder; and two sisters: Irene (Yoder) Grieff and Ruth (Yoder) Berger.
Graveside services will be at the convenience of the family in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A memorial service will be announced publicly at a later date.
