Obituary

Harry M. Sohon, 77, of Shoemakersville, passed away in his residence on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Shirley E. (Gruber) Sohon. They were married for twenty-one years on June 25, 1994 at her brother's farm in Auburn. Harry was born in New York on January 21, 1939 and adopted by the late Harry and Margaret (Boland) Sohon. He was a graduate of West Catholic Preparatory High School, Philadelphia and attended Villanova University for three years. Harry was a machine tool mechanic, retiring from Parker Hannifin in Greenfields. After retiring, he worked for Paul Fink Trailers, Hamburg, as a mechanic for many years. Harry taught automation control at Berks Career and Technology Center. He was a member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Shoemakersville and enjoyed helping with the Peach Festivals. Harry was a member of the Mohnton and Pikeville Rod and Gun Clubs. He enjoyed shooting trap and deer hunting and loved elephants and his '79 Datsun ZX. Harry was a thirty-three year member of AA and held many offices. He loved camping and traveled to many states with his family and friends. He always had a passion for sports. Harry was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Surviving in addition to his wife are his six daughters: Theresa (Sohon) Zocco, Lancaster; Sallie Sohon, Reading; twins: Kathleen Sohon, Reading and Francine (Sohon) Koenig, in New Mexico; Patricia Sohon, companion of Gehret Folk, Womelsdorf; and Ann Marie (Sohon), widow of Thomas Halulakos, Shillington; three step-children: Michael Berger, husband of Jennifer (Keinert) Berger, Kutztown; Melinda (Berger), wife of Jeffrey Neidermyer, Sinking Spring; and Melanie (Berger), wife of Michael Myer, Lebanon; thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Harry is also survived by one sister: Virginia (Sohon), wife of A. Daniel Bixler, Slatington; five brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Lehigh Valley Hospice for the wonderful care given to Harry. Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am from Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 354 Zion's Church Road, Shoemakersville, PA 19555. Burial will follow in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp. A viewing will be held in the church Tuesday 9:30 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society, 498 Bellevue Avenue, Reading, PA 19605 or AstraZeneca Hope Lodge, 110 W. Laurel Avenue, Cheltenham, PA 19012.
