Obituary

Granville W. Sandridge, 90, of Leesport, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021 in Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the husband of Rose M. (Gerhart) Sandridge, passed away January 17, 2018. Born in Leesport, he was the son of the late George M. Sandridge and Eva A. Spease. He graduated from Ontelaunee Vocational School in 1948. He was a decorated Army Veteran during the Korean War, and was proud of his service. He was proudly employed by 2 great companies, Boscov's County Kitchens, 1971-1979 as Food Service Director; and later Singer Equipment from 1980-2012 as a sales representative for 32 years. During Sandy's life, he held many memberships and roles within the organizations. He was a member and former Commander of American Legion Post No. 906; Leesport, member and Post Grand of Leesport Lodge No. 141 IOOF, where he's been a member since 1965; Bernville American Legion Post 732; Leesport Area Historical Society; Blandon Senior Citizens; and was a 32 degree Master Mason. Granny also held membership at Leesport VFW Post 1182, Vaux Lodge No. 406 F&A.M.; and was a past president of the former Leesport Community Civic Club. He was a member of Blandon Lions Club, he was a Melvin Jones Fellow, served as Club President in 2000, was awarded Lion of the Year in 2002 & 2003, and had served 2 terms as District 14P Region and Zone Chairperson. He also served as Sight First Region Chairman, during his term 100% of the Clubs achieved their goals to help the blind. He also held perfect attendance since 1995. Granville served as Leesport Borough Mayor from 1990 to 1993, and was also currently filling that position; he also served on Borough Council for numerous years. He was a former president of Berks County Mayors Association; and had been Northern Berks Regional Police Commissioner for a few years. During his military career; he led 2 squads in the last bayonet charge by an Army Unit on February 7, 1951 and was later inducted into the Berks County Military Hall of Fame on November 10, 2012. He enjoyed traveling the United States with his devoted and lovely wife Rose. They visited Alaska, Europe, and Numerous Islands in the Carribean. He was a Boston Red Sox, Celtics, and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Granville is survived by a nephew: Bradley Binner, companion of Nancy Lisa, Leesport; and a niece Tanya (Binner) Lanzilotti, wife of Richard, Berwyn. He was predeceased by a sister: Dolores (Bothers) Binner. Services will be held Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street Leesport, PA 19533.
