Obituary

Gladys Christine Kieffer, 95, Windsor Twp. was welcomed into heaven on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

Born in Centre Township on Dec. 26, 1928, she was a daughter of the late James S. Blatt and Eva Kate (Noecker) Blatt and a 1946 graduate of Ontelaunee High School. After graduation, she worked briefly at Diener's Knitting Mill, Leesport, and then became a farm wife and also worked for many years at the Windsor Twp. polling office on bi-annual election days. Gladys would always fondly share her childhood memories of the family farm on Blattadahl Road, CentreTownship, and she enjoyed a lifetime of wonderful memories with her sister, Helen M. Shollenberger, 97, of Allentown.

A loving wife and mother, Gladys was predeceased by her late husband of 58 years, Robert E. Kieffer, and her daughter, Janice L. Kieffer.

She is survived by three sons: Richard R. Kieffer and Ronald L. Kieffer, both of Windsor Twp.; and Kenneth L., husband of Rosemary (Pierce) Kieffer, Perry Twp.; and two daughters, Leona K., wife of Randy A. Moyer, Windsor Twp.; and Lisa A., wife of Timothy E. Hartline, Windsor Twp.

Gladys was also a wonderful grandmother to six grandchildren: Kristin, Carol, Alyse, Andrea, Jennifer and Joseph; and nine great-grandchildren, Jacob, Samuel, Liliana, Anna, Sophia, Ava, Hudson, Colton, and Emerson.

Always staying busy, Gladys loved to embroider and to bake, even baking banana bread on the morning that she passed. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and could often be found sitting on the front porch, enjoying the views of the pasture and watching her "boys" farm. Gladys was also an active member of her community, taking part in 81 years of membership in the Grange – first Centerport Grange and then Virginville Grange – and being an active member of Zion's Windsor Castle church, of which she participated in the Women's Guild. Gladys spent many years volunteering her time at the Kutztown Folk Festival where she made countless shoofly pies and milk tarts.

Gladys' gentle spirit, silly personality, and comforting presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her legacy of love and strength will continue to inspire and bring comfort to all those who knew her.
