George M. Koller, 102, of Alsace Twp., and formerly of Shoemakersville, died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 5:25 pm in the residence of his companion, Anna M. Urbanelli, with whom he resided. George's wife, Helen M. (Schappell) Koller, died May 20, 2002.
Born in Leesport, he was the son of the late Clayton W. and Estella M. (Moser) Koller. He worked as a shift foreman for twenty-eight years for BP Oil, Trainer, PA, retiring in 1971. He first worked as a full-fashion knitter at Burkey Underwear Company, Hamburg; and later worked at a shipyard in Chester, PA during World War II. George was the oldest member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg. He was a member of Vaux Masonic Lodge #406 F. & A.M., Hamburg; and the Shoemakersville Fire Company. George was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Sports Teams. He was loved by all who knew him.
Surviving in addition to his companion Anna are his nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by two sisters: Catherine M. (Koller) Hoyer and Clara (Koller) Tobias.
Services will be at the convenience of the family from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg.
