George L. Hafer, 77, of Bern Twp., died Wednesday, August 10, 2011 in the Reading Hospital where he was a patient since Saturday. His wife, Patricia B. (Mays) Hafer, died September 15, 2008.
Born in Muhlenberg Twp., he was the son of the late Lester W. and Emma B. (Graeff) Hafer. George was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked for thirty years as a motor technician for Standard Electric Corporation, Reading, until his retirement. George was a member, Past Grand and financial secretary for twenty years of Independent Order of Odd Fellows #141, Leesport. He was also a member of Goodwill and Leesport Fire Companies.
Surviving are two daughters: Joanne R. Boyer, New Hope; and Brenda Lee Boyer, Reading; one granddaughter: Tara Hirneisen; one brother: William L., husband of Margaret R. (Wagner) Hafer, a resident of Laurel Center, Tilden Twp.; and two sisters: Mary Lou (Hafer), wife of Harold R. Frankhouser, Muhlenberg Twp.; and Joan L. (Hafer), wife of Paul F. Henne, Shoemakersville. George was predeceased by a brother: Calvin W. Hafer; and two sisters: Eleanor M. (Hafer) Spatz; and Consula R. (Hafer) Yohn.
Services will be on Monday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. A viewing will be held on Monday 9:30 to 11:00 am with Independent Order of Odd Fellows service at 10:45 am.
