Gene R. Koraltan, "Boodie", 79, of West Lawn, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in the Reading Hospital where he was a patient since Monday. He was the loving husband of Shirley J. (Sterner) Koraltan, formerly of Hamburg, who passed away on January 22, 2010, after 52 years of marriage.

Gene was born Cengizhan Refik Koraltan on July 24, 1932 in Ankara, Turkey; a son of the late Refik and Mukbile Koraltan. He became a U.S. citizen in 1962 and changed his name to Gene R. Koraltan. He was a 1950 graduate of Ankara High School, majored in journalism at Drama College of Istanbul, Turkey, and took English courses at U.C.L.A.

Gene started his career as a Program Director and Disc Jockey for Radio Ankara in Turkey. He left Turkey for a job opportunity at 20th Century Fox in Hollywood where he became Assistant to the Head of International Department and Producer Trainee. His proudest moments were working on the set of Love Me Tender with Elvis Presley and Long Hot Summer with Paul Newman. Gene and his wife Shirley returned to her Pennsylvania roots and opened Cham Chack of Hollywood at the Fairgrounds Square Mall, retiring in 1998.
Gene and Shirley were members of Bethany United Methodist Church, Hamburg. He was also a member of Union Fire Company, Hamburg and beneficial association.

"Boodie" loved going to family dinners; telling his home-made jokes and laughing the most. He will forever be with his wife Shirley and their pet dog "Zoey".

"Boodie" is survived by a sister: Ayhan Timurtas; and a brother: Yavuz Koraltan, both of Istanbul, Turkey. He is also survived by his three sister-in-laws: Carol J. (Sterner), wife of Michael P. Dianna, Shillington; Shirley A. (Hunsberger), widow of Larry L. Sterner, Sr., Hamburg; and Janet (Deibert), widow of Irvin B. Sterner, Philipi, West Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Drehrersville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Animal Rescue League, P.O.
