Gary P. Vogel, 62, of Tilden Twp., died in his residence on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 8:48 pm. He was the husband of Christine P. (Albright) Vogel. They were married on June 26, 1970 and celebrated 41 years of marriage.
Born in West Reading, he was the son of Frederick H. Vogel, Lebanon; and the late Miriam E. (Herner) Vogel. He was a 1967 graduate of Schuylkill Valley High School. Gary was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He served as a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He worked for thirty-six years for Reading Truck Body, working as head of research and development. Gary was the treasurer and a life member of Shartlesville Fish and Game Association; and a member of the Port Clinton Fish and Game Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed gardening and also raced for RORR (Reading Off-Road Riders). Gary was always there to help his friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife and father are two sons: Jeremy P. Vogel, Athens, Georgia; and Zachary P. Vogel, and his companion Kristin Becker, Tilden Twp.; one granddaughter: Jetta; and one sister: Gail A. (Vogel) Putt, and her companion Kerry Reppert, Shoemakersville. Gary is also survived by his aunt: Mary (Vogel) Kepner, Hughesville, PA; and his many nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation with the family will be held on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). A time for sharing remembrances of Gary will be on Sunday at 4:00 pm. Burial with military honors will be on Monday at 2:30 pm in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The procession to the cemetery will leave the funeral home on Monday at 1:30 pm. A reception will be held on Monday from 4:30 to 7:30 pm at the Shartlesville Fish and Game Association, 125 Forge Dam Road, Hamburg, PA 19526.
