Freda M. Berger, 101, formerly of Shartlesville, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014 in StoneRidge Towne Centre, Myerstown. She was the wife of Gordon R. Berger, who died October 31, 1993. Prior to residing at StoneRidge, Freda resided with her grandson, James R. Berger and family, in Myerstown.
Born in Upper Bern Twp., she was the daughter of the late John L. and Alice M. (Stoudt) Yoder. Freda first worked as a sewing machine operator in Mt. Aetna, then at Hamburg Knitting Mills, and last for the former Jayco Knitting Mills, Shoemakersville, retiring in 1975. She was a member of Frieden's Church, Shartlesville. Freda was a life member of Shartlesville Fire Company and beneficial association. She was a former treasurer of the bingo committee at the fire company. Freda was also a member of the Blue Mountain Senior Citizens, Shartlesville; the 50-plus club of Bethel; and Shartlesville Connection. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, making braided rugs, and cooking.
Freda is survived by two daughters: Luella A. (Berger), wife of Ralph L. Trump, Tilden Twp.; and Betty L. (Berger), wife of Mark S. Eisenhower, Lebanon; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters: Catharine M. Berger, died in 1933; and Ruth Ann Berger, died August 8, 1991; and six brothers: Paul, John, Jr., Lloyd, Floyd, Elmer and Luther Yoder; and one sister: Edna Adams.
Services will be held on Friday at 2:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in Frieden's Cemetery, Shartlesville.
