Franklin J. Balthaser, "Chut", 90, of Hamburg, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 in his residence. He was the husband of Audrey M. (Schollenberger) Balthaser. They were married on May 27, 1947 and celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Born in Hamburg, he was a son of the late Frank S. and Carrie L. (Yocom) Balthaser. Chut was a 1941 graduate of Hamburg High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Chut worked at Sear's from 1950-1959 and Zeswitz Music Store from 1961-1965. He owned and operated the Central Bowling Alley in Hamburg from 1950-1955. Chut was an auctioneer for twenty-two years and also owned and operated Chut's Appliances in Hamburg for twelve years. He attended The Bridge Church, Hamburg.
Chut absolutely loved tennis! He was a Berks County Doubles Champion in Tennis in the 1970's. He was also a Berks County Doubles Champion in Bowling during that time. He was a member of Union Fire Company #1, Hamburg; a life member of Behler-Hein Post #637 American Legion, Hamburg; and a life member of Hamburg Game Association.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Steve A. Balthaser, Hamburg; and Todd D. Balthaser, Denver, Pa.; one daughter: Pamela A. (Balthaser), wife of Linwood Gruber, Winter Haven, Florida; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Chut was predeceased by a son: Scott H. Balthaser, died July 6, 2001; one brother: David W. Balthaser; and one sister: Anna (Balthaser) Romig.
