Machmer
July 17, 1937 – January 11, 2025
Forrest A. Machmer, 87, of Centre Twp., passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025 in Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the husband of Janet F. (Unterkofler) Machmer. They were married January 18, 1958 and were preparing to celebrate 67 years of marriage.
Born in Centre Twp., he was the son of the late Forrest S. and Mildred V. (Baer) Machmer. He worked as a brick and block layer for Charles Strause and R. A. Reider in Leesport for 20 years; later he worked for Quaker Maid Kitchens for 13 years; Finally, he started his own woodworking business where he made signature picture frames, recipe boxes, etc. He was known for his exceptional craftsmanship. He retired in 1999.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Forrest C. Machmer, Centre Twp; two daughters: Shirley I. (Machmer), wife of Daniel Berger, Bernville, and Brenda M. Machmer, four grandchildren: Timothy, Valerie, Christine, and Bradley; and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters; Ruth (Machmer) Marko, Centre Twp., Mary Jane (Machmer) Quillman, Centre Twp., and Evelyn T. (Machmer) Hoppes, Tilden Twp. He was predeceased by a daughter: Darlene A. (Machmer) Bicksler; and two brothers: Dale E. and Kenneth C. Machmer.
Forrest was known for being a hard worker. He was an avid storyteller, gardener, fisherman, and fan of baseball and football. He was never late for anything and always arrived for work at least an hour early.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 11:00am from the Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery, Centre Twp. A viewing will be held from 10:00 - 11:00am in the funeral home.
