Floyd N. Turner, 83, of Perry Twp., died Monday, March 19, 2012 at 6:14 am in his residence. His wife, Marsheline (Morris) Turner, died September 16, 2006.
Born in Centre Twp., he was the son of the late Raymond F. and Mary R. (Daughtry) Turner. He was a 1946 graduate of Perry High School and a 1948 graduate of Wyomissing Polytech, earning an Associate's Degree in Electric Engineering. He also earned a diploma from Allentown Technical School in Radio and Television Repair. Floyd worked for Mid-Atlantic Brick Corporation, Perry Twp., where he was chief electrician and in charge of the hydraulic, pneumatic, motor controls and automated systems. He retired in 1993 after 43 years of service.
Floyd had four passions in life, namely sports, art, music and Freemasonry. He was a avid University of Kentucky basketball fan since his high school playing days. His hobby was oil painting, giving his pictures to anyone who wanted one. Floyd played guitar for over 40 years in various bands covering Eastern Pennsylvania; last fronting his own band, the popular After Dark Trio.
In the York Rite Masonic Fraternity, he was a Past Master of Reading Lodge 549, serving as its Secretary for sixteen years. He was Past High Priest of Reading Chapter 152; Past Commander of Reading Knights Templar No. 9; Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Creigh Council No. 16; and a member of The Joshua and Order of Silver Trowel clubs. Floyd was a member of the Red Cross of Constantine and Knights of the York Cross of Honor. In the Scottish Rite, he was a 32nd degree member of the Valley of Reading A.A.S.R. and Past Sovereign Prince of the Princes of Jerusalem. He was a Past President and charter member of the Hi-Twelve Good Fellowship Club No. 669.
Floyd was a member of the Shoemakersville Senior Citizens, serving as President for eleven years.
Working for the Y.M.C.A., he was the director for the Y-Indian program in Northern Berks County.
Floyd was a member of the Mohrsville Church of the Brethren, serving as District Delegate, singing in the choir, member of Church Council, and Past President of the Homebuilders Class.
Surviving is one son: Floyd N., II, husband of Jane A. (Bechtel) Turner, Muhlenberg Twp.; two daughters: Cynthia Y. (Turner), wife of David P. Ricker, Muhlenberg Twp.; and Toni Lee (Turner), wife of Jeffrey L. Keim, Perry Twp.; five granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers: Burlin Turner and Milton Turner, both of Perry Twp.; and one sister: Gloria (Turner) Smith, Leesport. Floyd was predeceased by a daughter: Beverly Ann (Turner) Fetherolf, died January 7, 1974.
Services will be on Thursday at 11:00 am from Mohrsville Church of the Brethren with Pastor James R. Bauer officiating. Burial will be in Viewpoint Cemetery, Centre Twp. A viewing will be held at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear) on Wednesday 6:00 to 8:00 pm with Masonic Services at 7:45 pm. A viewing will also be held in the church Thursday 10:00 to 11:00 am.
