Fern S. Kramer, 91, of West Leesport, died Wednesday, January 1, 2014, in the residence of her daughter Allyson.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Mary Jane (Smith) Kramer. Fern worked in the clean room of Western Electric, then AT & T, and last for Lucent Technologies, until retiring in 1987. She was also the Union Rep. for IBEU. Fern was a member of the air defense team ground observer corp during World War II and the Korean War. She played Short Center on the Diamond Lil's Women's Softball team during the 1950's. Fern participated in the Senior Olympics, winning numerous championships in Track and Field. She enjoyed working and gardening, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Fern is survived by her daughter: Allyson M., wife of Terry R. McKechnie, Cumru Twp. and with whom she resided; two grandsons: Ryan and Kyle; and two sisters: Ruth, widow of Ronald Saylor, Hamburg; and Faye, wife of Clarence Davis, Leesport. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers: John A. Kramer and William E. Kramer; and her companion: Robert T. Norman.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 3:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. A visitation with the family will be on Saturday from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. Burial will be private in Berks County Memorial Gardens.
