Ernest "Ernie" Lee Shobe, 78, passed away peacefully in his home in Hamburg, Pennsylvania on February 19, 2025. Born on November 14, 1946, in Lima, OH to the late James H. Shobe and Virginia E. Bentz, the family moved to Hamburg, PA in 1958 to raise their family. The family was of the Seventh-Day Adventist faith, and Ernie was a member of Hamburg SDA church in Hamburg, PA.
Ernie graduated from Blue Mountain Academy in 1964 and then worked as a truck driver for The Harris Pine Mills for several years. During this time, he married Sandra King, and they had two children, Ernest L. Shobe, Jr., and Lisa M. (Shobe) Trayer. They divorced in 1975, and he married Phyllis H. Dewey in 1976. He fathered Katrina J. (Shobe) Robinson and Jeremy J. Shobe and transitioned from a truck driver to a diesel mechanic. They also later divorced. In 1985, he married Virginia "Penny" E. Harding and fathered Jennifer E. Shobe and Kristopher F. Shobe. They remained married for thirty-two years until she died in 2017.
In the late 1990s, Ernie, with the help of his wife, Penny, started his own business, Ernie's Appliance Repair Service. Ernie has always enjoyed tinkering and fixing things from bicycles, radios, and early TVs to small and large engines. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, building and flying radio-controlled airplanes, and flying ultralight planes.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Penny, his son Ernie, Jr., and grandson, Mark Schaner. He is survived by his brothers, James (Joyce) Shobe and Paul (Sue) Shobe, and sisters, Melva (Teddy) Vaughn and Naomi Degraw, his five other children, Lisa (Philip) Trayer, Katrina (Brad) Robinson, Jeremy Shobe, Jennifer Shobe, and Kristopher (Ashley) Shobe, 17 grandchildren, as well as great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Noon on Sunday, February 23 at the Hamburg SDA church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to http://spot.fund/ErnieShobeFinalExpenses
