Elton F. Merkel, 94, formerly of Windsor and Perry Townships, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Westminster Village, Dover, Delaware. Mr. Merkel was born April 30, 1919 in Windsor Twp., a son of the late Floyd M. and Mary K. (Wisser) Merkel. Elton is survived by a daughter, Beverlyann Stewart, of Dover and with whom he lived for the past 2 1/2 years; a granddaughter, Beth Dunnum, of Wisconsin; a grandson, Dennis Stewart, of Delaware; and three great-grandchildren. Other survivors include long-time companion, Dorothy Sonday; brother, Norman O. Merkel; and several nieces and nephews. Elton was a 1938 graduate of the former Ontelaunee Vocational School; and a member of Zion's Church, Windsor Castle. He worked the family farms in Windsor Township most of his life. Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp.
