Obituary

Elizabeth I. Bickel, 81, formerly of Mohrsville, died Saturday, December 31, 2011 in Berks Heim, Bern Twp., where she resided for three months. She previously resided at Hearthstone since January 2010. Her husband, Norman N. Bickel, died August 11, 1993.

Born in Mohrsville, she was the daughter of the late Clarence L. Weaver and Alberta M. (Potteiger) Weaver Sterling. She was a 1949 graduate of Muhlenberg High School. Elizabeth worked for thirty-nine years as an office manager for Diener Knitting Mills, Leesport, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church and Sunday School, Centre Twp.; and a member of the choir since 1943. She was an assistant leader and sponsor for the former Wap-O Camp Fire Group of Mohrsville, being active for more than 40 years. Elizabeth was a life member of Blue Mountain Chapter #443, Order of Eastern Star, Hamburg, having served as Worthy Matron in 1970-1971 and as District Deputy Matron of District 15B of the Grand Chapter of Pennsylvania in 1975-1976. She was a member of the Sessions Committee of the Grand Chapter in 1985; and served as General Chairman of the Sessions Committee in 1995. From 1988-1989, she served as Grand Marshal of the Grand Chapter of Pennsylvania; and from 1989-1991, she was the Grand Representative of Iowa in Pennsylvania. From 1995-1998, she was the Grand Representative of Quebec in Pennsylvania. There were numerous other Grand Chapter committees on which she served throughout the years. Elizabeth was also a member of Central Berks Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Elizabeth is survived by one step-brother: Richard E. Sterling, Jr., Centre Twp.; two nieces: Carlene A. (Weaver), wife of Eric Kissinger, Mohrsville; and Roxanne D. (Weaver), wife of Allen Loeb, Leesport; four nephews: Dennis C. Weaver, and wife Barbara, Mohrsville; Christopher L. Weaver, and wife Clementine, Eldersburg, MD; Kerry L. Weaver, and wife Mary, Mohnton; and Darryl L. Weaver, and wife Robin, Mt. Union, PA; and her sister-in-law: Arlene A. (Bair) Weaver, Mohrsville. Elizabeth was predeceased by a brother: Carl L. Weaver; and a step-sister: Hazel (Sterling) Stetzler.

Services will be on Saturday at 10:30 am from Salem (Belleman's) Church, 3540 Belleman's Church Road, Mohrsville. Burial will be in Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery, Centre Twp. A viewing will be held at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg (off street parking in rear) on Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Order of Eastern Star services will be at 8:00 pm. There will also be a viewing at the church Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Belleman's Church Bell Tower Fund, c/o Bernice L.
