Edward D. Emhardt, 90, of Hamburg, died Thursday, July 5, 2012 in the Reading Hospital where he was a patient since June 29. He was the husband of Helen L. (Hafer) Emhardt. They were married on June 7, 1947 and celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Born in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Charles K. and Edith A. (Miller) Emhardt. He was a 1939 graduate of Pottsville High School. Edward owned and operated Emhardt Pattern Works, Hamburg, from 1939-1988. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg, where he was a former council member, choir member, Sunday School teacher and former member of the church orchestra. He was a 50-year member and past president of the Hamburg Exchange Club. Edward was a charter member and vice-president of the Hamburg Jaycees in 1950. He was a life member of Vaux Lodge #406 F. & A.M., Hamburg; member of A.A.S.R. Valley of Reading-Reading Consistory; and Union Fire Co. #1 of Hamburg and beneficial association. Edward volunteered at the Lutheran Home at Topton where he was in charge of the Putz.
Surviving in addition to his wife is one daughter: Susan L. (Emhardt), wife of Alan S. Grossman, McGaheysville, Virginia; three grandchildren: Tristan Baney, Boston, MA; Ellen Baney, Harrisonburg, VA; and Katharine Baney, McGaheysville; and one brother: Charles R., husband of Ruth A. (Boltz) Emhardt, Hockessin, Delaware. Edward was predeceased by a sister: Marjory (Emhardt) Swartzbaugh.
Memorial services will be on Friday at 11:00 am from St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Hamburg. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Twp. A visitation with the family will be held in the church Friday 10:00 to 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. John's Ev.
