Obituary

Edith (Sue) Morrow Harman

Sue Harman, 93, of Reading, PA, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 12th 2024 at 8:05 a.m. in Tower Health Rehab Center, Wyomissing, PA. where she was a patient since August 21st.

Sue was born January 5th, 1931, in the city of Philadelphia, the daughter of John and Edith (Orr) Nunan.

She married Marlin R. Harman on August 23rd, 1952. They were married for over 58 years. In 1961 Sue and Marlin adopted a little boy from Japan and in 1962 they adopted a little girl. This completed their family except for a few puppies along the way.

Sue attended a one room schoolhouse before graduating from East Greenville High School in 1949. She then went on to study at the Landsdale School of Business and graduated in 1950. She began her banking career with Harleysville national Bank and joined The First National Bank of Leesport in 1965 where she was a dedicated employee for over 31 years. As an active member of Bethany E.C. church since 1965, she served as a member of its board, Sunday school teacher and Superintendent.

Sue is well known for her generosity and pie baking skills. She also loved gardening and would much rather spend her time outside than inside cleaning, except of course for pie baking. Over the years she traveled the world immersing herself in other cultures and traditions. Years later recalling and remarking on the people she met that left an impression and a fond memory, and always talked about one more trip. The last month of Sue's life her favorite word was "perseverance" and that's exactly what she did right up to the time she went home to be with our Lord, that one last trip.

She is survived by her two children, David M. Harman, Reading and Cynthia A. Scharadin wife of Frederick L. Scharadin, Brecknock Township. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Salina L. Iavarone wife of Frank; Andrea M. Dake wife of Brad, Tyler D. Scharadin and Brooke A. Bumeder, wife of Keith; and six great-grandchildern, Alexander and Cassandra Iavarone; Archer Dake; Reid, Ross and Hope Bumeder.

Sue is also survived by her brother John Nunan and her sisters Sally E. Metz, Faith M. Geiger and Eleanor C. Nunan in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in Bethany E.C. Church, 308 Main Street Leesport, PA with Pastor Charles Walker officiating.
