E. Arline Rothermel, 92, of Centre Twp., passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2015 in St. Joseph Medical Center. She was the wife of John D. Rothermel, who died September 24, 1974.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Emma H. (Mertz) Gilmer. Arline worked as a sewing machine operator for Lyons Knitwear, Wide Awake Shirt Factory, and Narrow Fabric, until retiring in 1990. She was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Center Twp. Arline was a charter member and past officer of the Women's Guild at church. She was a member of Central Berks Fire Company and beneficial association; Shoemakersville Fire Company and beneficial association; Evergreen Country Club; American Legion Auxiliary #906, Leesport; and a former member of Leesport Senior Citizens.
Arline is survived by one daughter: Janet L. (Rothermel), wife of Eugene P. Kemp, Bern Twp.; and one grandson: Chad E. Kemp, Mays Landing. She is also survived by one brother: Marvin R. Gilmer, and his wife Patricia (Gechter) Gilmer, Shillington; and one sister: Marvine A. (Gilmer) wife of Gerald Esser, East Earl. Arline was predeceased by two brothers: John H. Gilmer and Roger I. Gilmer; and one sister: Bessie E. (Gilmer) Potteiger.
Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in Leesport Cemetery.
