Dorothy V. Balthaser, 89, formerly of Perry Twp., died March 13, 2013 in Sedalia, Missouri, where she resided since 2000. She was the wife of Paul A. Balthaser, died February 18, 1998. Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Carl L. and Ida Mae (Smink) Gerhart. She was a 1941 graduate of Reading High School and received a degree as a practical nurse. Dorothy was a cafeteria worker for Hamburg High School for twenty-eight years. She was a member of Grace Independent Baptist Church, Orwigsburg, where she taught Sunday School. Dorothy also taught for Reading Bible Institute. She taught for the Good News Club for fifty years. Dorothy accompanied her husband as he sang at many churches. She was a past Director of Valley View Bible Camp; and was a Rally Day presenter at different churches in the area. Dorothy is survived by one daughter: Grace E. "Beth" (Balthaser) Linn, Sedalia, Missouri; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons. Services will be on Monday at 1:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in Laureldale Cemetery.
