Obituary

Donald K. Homm, 93, of Hamburg, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024 in his residence surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was the husband of Catherine E. (Kauffman) Homm. They were married May 22, 1954, in St. Peter's Church, Mantzville, Schuylkill County and celebrated 70 years of marriage.

He was born August 8, 1931 in the Palmerton Hospital to the late Calvin J. and Hazel (Wiesner) Homm. He graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1949. He then enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War from 1949 to 1952. Donald was employed for 25 years as a heavy equipment operator for J. Robert Bazley, mainly operating his grader, and later worked for A.G. Kurtz Paving. He served as Superintendent of Public Works from 1982 to 1993 for the Borough of Hamburg from which he retired. During retirement, he worked part time for his son, D.K. Homm Excavating. He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Hamburg where he was a former Deacon, elder, and property committee chairman. He also served as statistic secretary for the Sunday School for 40 years. He was a 50-year member of Vaux Lodge No. 406 F&AM, Hamburg, a member of Hamburg Senior Citizens family, and was a former volunteer for the Hamburg Ambulance Association.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son: Dale K. Homm, husband of Connie (Derstine), Perry Twp.; a daughter: Cathy L. (Homm) Birmingham, partner of Barry Becker, Leesport; five grandchildren: Daniel Homm, husband of MaryBeth (Stoudt), Douglassville and David Homm, husband of Sara (Hart), Hamburg, Cassondra (Homm) Kissinger, wife of Kurt, Leesport, and twin granddaughters: Ashley and Abby Birmingham, Leesport; and seven great-grandchildren: Caleb, Anna, Lily, Landon, Peter, Jason, and Amelia. He is also survived by his grand dog: Buddy. He was predeceased by a brother: Roger E. Homm.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 10:00 am from First United Church of Christ, 76 S. 3rd Street, Hamburg, PA 19526. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. A viewing will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 am in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to: First United Church of Christ, at the above address.
