Delton Blakeney, aka "John", 89, of Perry Twp., died Tuesday, January 17, 2012 in St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Twp., where he was a patient since January 12. He was the husband of Betty E. (Strausser) Blakeney. They were married on December 29, 1950 and celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Born in Raleigh, Mississippi, he was the son of the late Alonzo and Mollie (Atwood) Blakeney. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Normandy. Delton worked as an air spray painter for Air Spray Incorporated, Reading, retiring in 1984. He then worked for the Shoemakersville and Leesport Post Offices, doing maintenance duties. He was a member of Zion's Church, Windsor Castle.
Surviving in addition to his wife is one son: Terry L. Blakeney, and his wife Gloria, Oley; two daughters: Kathleen (Blakeney), wife of Larry Baer, Shoemakersville; and Susan K. (Blakeney), wife of Kenneth DeLussey, Leesport; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Delton was predeceased by seven brothers and one sister.
Services will be on Saturday at 1:30 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg (off street parking in rear) with Rev. Randy A. Bond officiating. Burial will be in St. John's (Gernant's) Cemetery, Ontelaunee Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Saturday 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm.
