David W. Schlegel, 67, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014 in Kutztown Manor. He was the husband of Janet M.L. (Epting) Schlegel. Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late William and Verna (Weidner) Schlegel. He was a graduate of Kutztown High School. David worked for 42 1/2 years for East Penn Manufacturing, Lyons. He was a member of Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perry Twp. David was a member of the Shoemakersville Area Lions Club for over thirty years. He enjoyed the activities of the Lions Club, especially helping with their carnival. David was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. David was also former Boy Scout Master. David was predeceased by a son: Shawn D. Schlegel, who died June 17, 1993. Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Twp.
