Schappell

David G. Schappell, 82, of Hamburg, passed away in his residence on Sunday, July 7, 2024. He was the husband of Carol Ann (Witman) Schappell. They were married on October 15, 1960 and celebrated sixty-three years of marriage.
Born in Hamburg, he was the son of the late Arlan F. and Irene M. (DeLong) Schappell. David was a 1960 graduate of Hamburg High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. David worked for Bell of Pennsylvania, which became Bell Atlantic, and last for Verizon, retiring in 1991. He then worked for ten years at Peter's Brothers, Lenhartsville, delivering meat. David was a member of St. John's Church, Port Clinton. He was also a member of Vaux Lodge #406 F.&A.M, Hamburg; Hamburg Fish and Game Association; Union Fire Co., No. 1, Hamburg; Perry Township Game Association; USS Little Rock Association; and a Bell Telephone Pioneer. David enjoyed camping with his kids and grandkids, NASCAR races; and hunting years ago.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children: Craig D. Schappell, husband of Dorothy M. (Rausch) Schappell, Hamburg; and Lisa M. (Schappell) Kolbe, wife of Bryn R. Kolbe, Shoemakersville; and four grandchildren: Natasha L. Schappell, Felicia K. Schappell; Kira M. Kolbe and Dakota R. Kolbe. He is also survived by his siblings: Richard A. Schappell, widower of Mary, Lenhartsville; and Carol A. (Schappell), wife of Richard Stine, Hamburg; and several nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by two sons: Todd A. Schappell and Brett A. Schappell.
Services will be held on Saturday at 2:30 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc, 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Saturday 1:00 to 2:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. John's Church, P.O. Box 102, Port Clinton, PA 19549.
