David G. Rice, Sr., 77, of Centre Twp., died Tuesday, April 16, 2024 in his residence. He was the husband of Carol J. (Hoffman) Rice. They were married August 28, 1965 and celebrated 58 years of marriage.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Galierd A. and LaRue G. (Devine) Rice. David worked as a maintenance supervisor at the former O.B. Dyers, Reading, for 38 years; and later in the same position at St. Joseph Hospital, Reading before retiring in 2005. David was a fire police officer since 1996; serving as Captain of the Fire Police for Gouglersville Fire Company, and most recently as Captain of the Fire Police for Central Berks Fire Company, Centerport. He was an officer of the Berks County Fire Police Association. David enjoyed his vegetable garden, fishing, hunting, boating, and camping. He always loved to visit Cape May, NJ; and enjoyed black and white war movies and John Wayne.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter: Debra J. Rice, South Heidelberg Twp.; a son: David G. Rice, Jr., husband of Ronda M. (DiFrancesco), East Cocalico Twp., Lancaster County; and his canine companion: Minnie. He was predeceased by a brother: Robert E. Rice, Sr.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
