Clifford G. Sayer, Sr., 82, of Mohrsville died Thursday, July 3, 2014 in his residence. He was the husband of Joan C. (DeLong) Sayer. They were married December 31, 1964 and celebrated 49 years of marriage.
Born in Greenwich Twp., he was the son of the late Daniel W. and Elsie (Sunday) Sayer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Cliff worked as foreman in the smelter at East Penn Manufacturing for 32 years, retiring in 1997. After his retirement, Cliff worked as caretaker at St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg for a number of years. He served as chaplain at Behler-Hein Post #637 American Legion, Hamburg. He was also a member of Hamburg Moose Family Center No. 523, Hamburg Game Association, Hamburg VFW, Central Berks Lions Club, Hamburg Fire Company, Virginville Fire Company, Goodwill Fire Company, and Shoemakersville Fire Company. Clifford enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, poker, woodworking, attending the Jamboree in Centerport, and always enjoyed family gatherings.
Surviving in addition to his wife are 8 children: Alice (Sayer), wife of Mark Brieski, Leesport, Carol (Sayer) Smith, Hamburg, Michael A., husband of Marsha Sayer, Hamburg, Lorraine (Sayer), wife of Gary Keller, Okeechobee, Fl., Cindy (Sayer), wife of Darryl Spencer, Shoemakersville, Steven S. Sayer, Herndon, VA., Barry W., husband of Sue Sayer, Temple, and Clifford G. Sayer, Jr., Mohrsville. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Carl W. husband of Bernice Sayer, Oley, and Dennis W. husband of Ardell Sayer, Walnuttown. He was predeceased by one son: Glen A. Sayer, who died May 6, 2011.
