Charles E. Showers, Jr., "Charlie", 96, of Hamburg, died Friday, September 20, 2013 in the residence of his son in Perry Twp. Charlie was the husband of Ruth G. (Miller) Showers, died November 9, 1999.
Born in Hamburg, he was the son of the late Charles E., Sr. and Lydia (Miller) Showers. He was a graduate of Reading High School. Charlie was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a life-long self-employed auto mechanic, owning and operating Showers's Garage, on Washington Street in Hamburg. Charlie was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg. He was an honorary member of the National Rifle Association; a member of Union Fire Company of Hamburg; and a member of the Reading Hunting Camp, Lycoming Co. Charlie was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing.
Charlie is survived by one son: Robert A., husband of Laurie J. (Blackadar) Showers, Perry Twp.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A visitation with the family will be held in the funeral home Tuesday 6:30 to 8:00 pm and Wednesday 10:30 to 11:00 am.
