Obituary

Charles Markosi, Jr., MD Charles Markosi, Jr., MD, 76, of Tilden Twp., died in his residence on Friday, April 25, 2014, in the loving arms of his wife Irene. He was the husband of Irene A. (Rongyos) Markosi. They were married on February 23, 1963 and celebrated 51 years of marriage. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Charles, Sr. and Dorothy (Petorok) Markosi. Charles was a graduate of Palmerton High School. He earned a degree in Pre-Med from Muhlenberg College, Allentown, in 1959. Charles graduated with his MD degree from the Medical School of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, in 1963 Dr. Markosi served his internship at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital in Darby, PA. Upon graduation, he worked in the emergency room at Allentown General Hospital. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. While serving in the military, he was a doctor at Chelsea Naval Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Markosi was in private practice at Tannersville Family Practice for twenty-five years. He then worked for the penal system in Pennsylvania; and later for Wernersville State Hospital. Dr. Markosi was licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts, as well as Pennsylvania. He was a member of the American Medical Association (AMA); and a life member of Cambridge Who's Who. In 2011, he received the Professional of the Year Award in Family Medicine from Cambridge Who's Who. Dr. Markosi also received inclusion into Elite American Physicians with a Certificate of Recognition on February 6, 2013. Charles was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Tilden Twp. He loved to fish, loved his flowers, and enjoyed gardening. He especially loved his wife Irene, and his children and grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife is one son: Charles Markosi III, and his wife Stephanie, Canton, Georgia; three daughters: Lauren J. Markosi, Somers Point, New Jersey; Tanya L. (Markosi), wife of Christopher Dinger, West Lawn; and Mary A. (Markosi), wife of Stuart Greene, Rockaway, New Jersey; and six grandchildren: Tara and Stefanie Seider, children of Lauren; Charles IV and Anastasia Markosi, children of Charles III; C.J. Dinger, son of Tanya; and Damon Greene, son of Mary. Charles was predeceased by a sister: Lorraine Smith, who died in 2005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 am from St. Mary's R.C. Church, 94 Walnut Road, Hamburg, PA 19526. A viewing will be held on Tuesday 7:00 to 9:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear); and at the church Wednesday 10:00 to 11:00 am.
