Charles J. Hoppes, 75, of Windsor Twp., died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 10:30 am in St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Twp., where he was a patient since Monday. He was the husband of Ruth A. (Bower) Hoppes. They were married on October 27, 1956 and celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Born in Kutztown, he was the son of the late Howard S. and Edna M. (Wolfinger) Hoppes. Charles owned and operated AAA 4x4 Auto Parts, Allentown, for twenty years. He later worked as a photographer for Auto Locator, Mt Joy, Lancaster Co., until retiring in March 2009. He Charles was a member, former church councilperson, and youth group advisor for Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perry Twp. He also enjoyed volunteering for Opportunity House.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Allen C. Hoppes, husband of Adela Martinez, Madrid, Spain; and Larry G. Hoppes, husband of Carole L. (Faulkner) Hoppes, Barto; and one grandson: Eric J. Hoppes. Also surviving is one brother: Howard G. Hoppes, and his wife Evelyn, Tilden Twp.; and one sister: Irene M. (Hoppes), wife of Larry R. Long, Centre Twp. Charles was predeceased by one brother: Lester R. Hoppes.
Services will be on Monday at 2:00 pm from Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 354 Zion's Church Road, Shoemakersville, PA 19555. Burial will follow in St. Paul's (Smoke) Cemetery, Windsor Twp. A viewing will be held at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg, on Sunday 7:00 to 9:00 pm and at the church Monday 1:00 to 2:00 pm.
