Catherine A. McElrea, 89, of Hamburg, died Friday, July 26, 2013 in her residence. She was the wife of Allen L. McElrea, who died August 12, 1993. Born in Kutztown, she was the daughter of the late Victor C. and Miriam (Stopp) Weida. Catherine worked for 24 1/2 years in the Dietary Department at the Hamburg Center, retiring in May 1985. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hamburg. Catherine was also a member of the Shoemakersville Senior Citizens and the Pennsylvania State Employee Retirees Association. She enjoyed bingo, going to the casinos, watching game shows, listening to Gaither gospel music, and traveling with her daughters. Catherine was a wonderful mother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Catherine is survived by two daughters: Cynthia G. McElrea, Hamburg; and Phyllis A. (McElrea), wife of Glenn A. Miller, Hamburg; one son: Jeffrey A. McElrea, husband of Sue M. (Althouse) McElrea, Mertztown; four grandsons: Jason Miller, and his wife Alayna; Jeremy McElrea, and his wife Jennifer; Shaun McElrea, companion of Andrea; and Kevin Miller, and his wife Margarita; and three great-grandchildren: Lily, Grace, and Jonathan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law: Mary Weida, Kutztown; and several nieces and nephews. Catherine was predeceased by her brother: Stanley Weida. Services will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street, Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Wednesday 10:00 to 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. John's Ev.
