Obituary

Carl R. Hein, 89, of Hamburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, at his home. He was the husband of Alyse F. (Hix) Mitten. They were married on October 1, 2017, and celebrated eight years of marriage.

Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late Arthur F. Hein and Laura C. (Weil) Hein; and stepson of the late Agnes R. (Kauffman) Hein. Carl was a 1956 graduate of Hamburg High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Carl worked for Ernst Construction before beginning his own plumbing business, Carl Hein Plumbing. He was a member of Zion's Church, Windsor Castle. Carl had a passion for restoring Case tractors. He owned a 1937 Case tractor, along with many others, which he restored to show quality. He also restored old pedal cars. He loved Corvairs, especially his 1965 model.

Carl played the violin and loved to sing, especially with his distinctive bass voice. He was a member of the Blue Mountain Heritage Chorus, Sip and Sing Choir, Pottsville Corvair Club, and the Old Time Plow Boys Club. He was also a Boy Scout leader for many years.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his children: Allen S. Hein, husband of Darlene; and Daphne (Hein) Manifold, wife of Stephen; stepchildren: Victoria (Mitten) McCloskey, wife of Anthony; Benjamin Mitten, husband of Jaclyn; and Cassandra (Mitten) Gray, wife of Ryan; and five grandchildren: Robert Hein, Katherine (Hein) Zimmerman, Braden McCloskey, Abigail Mitten and Ethan Mitten.

A Celebration of Carl's Life will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 3:30 pm at Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. A visitation with the family will be held on Friday in the funeral home from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. Carl will be remembered for his many talents, his love of working with his hands, his unmistakable bass voice, and the enjoyment he found in sharing his interests with others.
