Obituary

Carl Otto Hartmann, 82, of Wayne Twp., Schuylkill Co., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 25, 2012 and to join his wife of 51 years, Helga H. (Wolff) Hartmann, who predeceased him in 2004. Carl was born on December 21, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Karl A. and Ingeborg L. (Meyer) Hartmann. Carl began his career as an apprentice baker in Germany and continued his trade in the United States after World War II. He first worked in New York, and then in New Jersey for Freedman's Bakery until his retirement. His various interests included stamp and coin collecting, organic gardening, tennis, soccer, reading, family geneology, and German history. Carl considered his family to be his greatest accomplishment in life. Carl is survived by five daughters: Rita (Hartmann), wife of J. Wendell Yoder, Mohrsville; Karin (Hartmann) Applegate, Port Charlotte, Florida; Monika (Hartmann), wife of Michael McNamara, Schuylkill Haven; Christa Hartmann, and her partner, Ann Harty, San Carlos, California; and Helga (Hartmann) Brannick, wife of Chris Gilman, Wahiawa, Hawaii. He is also survived by three grandsons: Karl, John, and Bryan; six granddaughters: Heidi, Annaliese, Melissa, Kaci, Krysten, and Katarena; eight great-grandchildren: Jordan, Abigail, Madison, Eliyana, Caleb, Gideon, Sebastian, and Sydney; two sisters: Ursula Riese, Rehheide, Germany; and Antje Kocea, Dettingen, Germany; two nephews: Heiko Riese and Kai Riese; one niece: Inken Riese, all from Germany; nieces: Evelyn Rice, from Missouri; and Carol Benny, from New Jersey; nephew: Norbett Wolff, Jr., from New Jersey; and two sisters-in-law: Margot, wife of William Marks, Auburn; and Ruth Wolff, Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. Services will be on Friday at 3:30 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Hamburg (off street parking in rear). Burial will be private. A viewing will be held on Friday from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.
