December 20, 1947 – July 13, 2024
Carl J. Edling, 76, of Centerport, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024 in his residence. He was the husband of Yvonne S. (Staller) Edling. They were married on November 7, 1970 and celebrated fifty-three years of marriage.
Born in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Leroy and Lillian (Wildermuth) Edling. Carl attended Schuylkill Haven High School and graduated from Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia for diesel mechanics. He worked as a diesel mechanic for twenty years for Berman Freightlinger, retiring in 2013. Carl was a member of St. Michael's Church, Tilden Twp. He was a life member of Rainbow Hose Fire Company, Schuylkill Haven and a member of Central Berks Fire Company for 45 years; where he was a volunteer firefighter and assistant chief. Carl was also a member of the Centerport Borough Municipal Authority. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, vegetable gardening and watching The History Channel. Carl was a fan of the Washington Redkins, Philadelphia Phillies, Reading Phillies and Penn State Football. He adored his beagles and cats.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children: Kimberly Edling, Centerport; and Kevin Edling, husband of Kristi Russell, Birdsboro. He is also survived by his siblings: Bruce Edling, husband of Catherine (Pogash), Lancaster; Harold Edling, husband of Lynn (Hein), Orwigsburg; and Gloria Edling, Schuylkill Haven; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Carl was predeceased by sisters: Joan Edling, Jane Edling and baby girl Edling; and brother: Robert Edling.
Services will be held on Thursday at 12:30 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Thursday 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Central Berks Fire Company, P.O. Box 306, Centerport, PA 19516.
