Carl G. Berger, 85, of Shartlesville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 4, 2024. He was the husband of Shirley A. (Balthaser) Berger. They were married on September 17, 1960 and celebrated sixty-three years of marriage.

Born in Upper Bern Twp., he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Stella E. (Rissmiller) Berger. Carl was a 1957 graduate of Hamburg High School. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Army. Carl worked for Hoffman Industries and later worked at Textile Machine Works, which became Arrow International, for thirty-eight years until retiring in April 1999. He then worked part-time for fifteen years at Hertz, Inc., driving and washing cars.

Carl was a member of Frieden's Church, Shartlesville, where he served on council. He was a member of the cemetery board and lawn mowing committee. Carl was a member of the Shartlesville Lions Club since joining in 1974 and held numerous offices, including being the current treasurer for thirty-two years. He was a recipient of the District 14P Bing Miller Foundation Award. Carl was a life member of the Shartlesville Fish and Game Association, the former Shartlesville Grange, and the Shartlesville Fire Company and beneficial association.

Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping and spending time at their place near Rehoboth Beach, DE. He also enjoyed spending time with the family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and watching the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, and Penn State football and basketball.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his two sons: Kevin C. Berger, husband of Angela G. (Hall) Berger, Germansville; and Brian D. Berger, husband of Tina L. (Ruth) Berger, Upper Bern Twp.; four grandchildren: Alicia Merkel, wife of Eric; Dustin Berger, husband of Jessica; Austin Berger; and Nathan Hall, husband of Mary; and six great-grandchildren: Taylor, Sierra, and Dylan Merkel; Ryleigh and Sadie Berger; and Nathan Hall, Jr. Carl is also survived by one sister: Barbara A. (Berger) Mayer, widow of Donald, Fleetwood; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother: Daniel G. "Sonny" Berger, husband of June L. (Wagner) Berger, who died March 24, 2024.

A memorial service for Carl will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 10:30 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. A visitation with the family will be held Saturday 9:00 to 10:30 am in the funeral home. Burial will be private in Frieden's Cemetery, Shartlesville.
