C. John Levan, "Jess", 81, of Temple, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 in the Reading Hospital shortly after arrival. He was the husband of Doris L. (Sweigert) Levan. They were married on May 12, 1962 and celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Charles O. and Kathryn (Arnold) Levan. Jess was a 1951 graduate of Reading High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Jess worked for many years for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in Laureldale. He was an active member and deacon of Trinity Bible Fellowship Church, Blandon. Jess enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing Parcheesi and card games. He was a member of the Country Dancers of Berks County.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Jeffrey C. Levan, and his wife Keri, Clayton, North Carolina; and Steven J. Levan, New York City; two grandchildren: Kyle and Madison Levan; and one sister: Joan (Levan) Hoge, Sun City West, Arizona.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 2:00 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. A visitation with the family will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, August 30, 2014 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.
