Obituary

Bruce W. Akers, 62, of Maidencreek Twp., died Monday, July 17, 2017, in Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Twp. He was the companion of Gayle B. Davidson, Maidencreek Twp. Born in Portage, WI, he was the son of Virginia M. (Horswill) Overloop, Wysox, PA, and the late Owen W. Akers. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1972, and later received an associates degree in agriculture from Michigan State University; and a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University also in agriculture. Bruce worked as a dairy farmer for Michigan State University Research Farm, and later Lock Shore Farm in Kalamazoo County. Most recently, he worked as a milk technician for Dairy One, Ithaca, NY, last working in 2014. He was a member of Hamburg Game Association, and was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, and Michigan State Football and Basketball. Bruce is survived by two sons: Bruce O. "Junior" Akers, Kalamazoo, MI, and Timothy C. husband of Stefanie G. Roderer, Whitehall, MI; two daugthers: Teresita H. Akers, Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Gracelisa M. Akers, Rothbury, MI; five grandsons; and three granddaughters. He is also survived by a brother: Brian D. Akers, Woodstock, NY; and a sister: Helen E. (Akers) Olewnick, Wysox, PA. He was predeceased by a brother: David E. Akers. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., Leesport, is in charge of arrangements.
